The best way to avoid a charge under DWI is to give up on alcohol. For those who are alcoholics, this may not seem practical or simple. This is the reason why various other ways of avoiding being charged under DWI are listed below.

1) Do not drink and drive: You have to wait for at least 12 hours after your last drink before you start to drive. Even if you feel steady enough to drive, you have to avoid the same if you do not want to be charged under DWI. Either ask a sober friend for a lift, walk it up or stay in a hotel, but do not drink and drive.

2) Maintain your car: Before you set out for a night outing, check your car to see if it is in a good condition. Check the head lights, bumper, brake, mirror and all to see if they are in proper condition. Also check both the number plates to see if they are in good shape.

3) Check the documents: Keep your driving license and other documents relating to your registration and insurance inside your car. Check them before you go out for the night. It is always better to put them all into a single envelope and keep it in the glove compartment.

4) Follow roadsides: Whenever you drive in the dark, you may feel like skipping red lights and speeding as you think no one is watching you. However, you should not do this even if your friends dare you or peer pressure forces you. Always borrow road safety rules in the night too. Stop at red lights and stop signs and do not speed.

5) If you are charged or stopped by the law enforcement officer: At this anxious moment, do not lose your calm, presence of mind and composure. Do not be stiff or non-complying. If he asks you to undergo the tests, undertake it. Raise your queries, ask for answers and get samples of your urine for your record too. Tell that you want a lawyer. However, don't obstruct justice or argue with the officers. This will only worsen your penalties.

If you follow the above tips and techniques, you can avoid a charge under DWI. This will not only save your pocket but will also keep your public and social image intact and untarnished.
